One Republic 'Counting Stars'

One Republic Counting Stars

The use of camera angles within this particular music video are quite repetitive which in my opinion is quite effective because it shows the main focus is the band, the camera shots on the other hand are very quick changes which again is very effective because it matches the beat of the song. The main angles used throughout the video are mainly close ups, mid shots and wide angled shots. With different shots being thrown in at the appropriate times.

The video itself was shot in a gloomy basement which fits the video because of the song starts quite soft, but by the end of the video the song is quite hard and the beat is getting faster which matches the video with the building falling apart. The video also shows a Christian revival service which fits the purpose of the video, especially one particular part of the lyrics “I don't think the world is sold I'm just doing what we're told I feel something so right Doing the wrong thing I feel something so wrong Doing the right thing I could lie, could lie, could lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive” as the songs beat gets louder towards the climax, the camera keeps switching between the band and the Christian group which matches the lyrics. Throughout this particular video there are several shots of an alligator which I couldn’t think of any importance of these shots.

The genre of this video was pop rock.

This particular music video was directed by James Lees. He is a director of music videos, short films, commercials and TV shows.one of his films was nominated for a European Film Academy Award. He has directed videos for Elisa Jo.

The video was filmed on the 10th May 2013 and was released on the 31st May 2013. The song was also promoted on The Voice in June 2013.
