Imagine Dragons 'Radioactive'

Imagine Dragons Radioactive
The genre of this video is a mixture of two its Alternative Rock/ Electro Rock. This video was directed by Syndrome, Syndrome directs videos for video games, Music Videos, Commercials and Live. Syndrome has directed music videos for artists like Cover Drive, Eminem,  Rebecca Ferguson, Rita Ora and Ke$ha. The video stars with a long shot of a woman walking on a path with a cage that is covered over which leads the audience to try and guess what’s in the cage, the next shot is of what looks like an abandoned building. The shots used seem to be very similar either close up extreme close up. The changes between the shots is not beat matched which works in this particular video. This video again is very different to the song which is misleading when I listened to the song for the first time I thought it was a nuclear type song due to the deep bass but the director decided to portray this as a completely different idea. This video contained puppet which again

a lot of videos don’t it just adds another dimension.

KIngs Of Leon 'Sex On Fire'

Kings of Leon Sex on Fire
This video was directed by Sophie Muller, She was born on the 31st January 1962. She has directed music videos for Annie Lennox, The Cure, Gary Barlow, Blur and Gwen Stefani.
The video starts quite dark with an extreme close up on the main band member’s face. The majority of this video is in poor lighting which generates the effect of an abandoned warehouse it also adds a hint of creepiness to it because part of his face is shadowed. The use of the camera throughout the start of the video is very clever in the way that when the main band member looks in a particular direction the camera snaps to that position which is where you see a member of the band looking at him which adds to the creepiness of the video. The main band member spends the majority of the video “trapped” on this bed, while he is moving his hands it portrays confusion. The camera shots match the beat of the song constantly switching between the main band members on a bed to the band preforming. While the band are preforming they use a tracking shot as the move into where the band are preforming, the lighting in that particular shot although you could see all the band it was still dark so the director had chosen to stay with the current design.  The video was released in 2008 and when checked in August 2012 it had over 60 Million Views.

One Republic 'Counting Stars'

One Republic Counting Stars

The use of camera angles within this particular music video are quite repetitive which in my opinion is quite effective because it shows the main focus is the band, the camera shots on the other hand are very quick changes which again is very effective because it matches the beat of the song. The main angles used throughout the video are mainly close ups, mid shots and wide angled shots. With different shots being thrown in at the appropriate times.

The video itself was shot in a gloomy basement which fits the video because of the song starts quite soft, but by the end of the video the song is quite hard and the beat is getting faster which matches the video with the building falling apart. The video also shows a Christian revival service which fits the purpose of the video, especially one particular part of the lyrics “I don't think the world is sold I'm just doing what we're told I feel something so right Doing the wrong thing I feel something so wrong Doing the right thing I could lie, could lie, could lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive” as the songs beat gets louder towards the climax, the camera keeps switching between the band and the Christian group which matches the lyrics. Throughout this particular video there are several shots of an alligator which I couldn’t think of any importance of these shots.

The genre of this video was pop rock.

This particular music video was directed by James Lees. He is a director of music videos, short films, commercials and TV shows.one of his films was nominated for a European Film Academy Award. He has directed videos for Elisa Jo.

The video was filmed on the 10th May 2013 and was released on the 31st May 2013. The song was also promoted on The Voice in June 2013.

Jason Derulo ' The Other Side' Review

Jason Derulo ‘The Other Side’

The use of camera angles and shots in the music video are smooth sleek and quick, there is very quick fades between all of the shots, the camera is never still which adds effect to the video by adding anticipation. The use of varied angles throughout the video again adds an effect because you’re never looking at the same shot twice.

The director Colin Tilly has directed videos for Sean Kingston, Zendaya and Chris Brown, he has also won several awards for his music videos, one of his awards was video of the year at the 2011 BET awards, and the video that won was Chris Brown’s Look at Me.

The visual effects within this video are effective for this choice of genre which is Dance-Pop. The video looks like its set in either a club or a warehouse which creates the effect. The use of lighting throughout the video gave the feel of a club type atmosphere in the sense of low lighting. The use of back lighting again is effective because as the audience the outline of the dancers and main artist is shown.

Location: Wantage

Wantage, a little down within Oxfordshire, a nice small town with a few possibility's for my music video. During the day Wantage is reasonably busy until about 6pm, when Wantage becomes quiet which adds more possibility during filming. the pictures here were taken on a Thursday evening at about 7pm. all of these shots would be good for a slow part of the song,
